    Get PDF
"In 'D'un discours qui ne serait pas du semblant / Actors, Networks, Theories', Vincent Bonin explores the notion of deferred receptions of theories and art through language, context and translations. The book explores the gap between the publication of a text in one language and that of its translation, or between the inaugural presentation of an artwork in one context and its subsequent display." -- Back cover

Perspectives sur le statut des équipements électroniques à Montréal = Perspectives on the Status of Electronic Equipment in Montreal

    Get PDF
"The [...] anthology responds to the ever-increasing amount of electronic equipment that is perceived as obsolete, valueless or disposable. Contributors from diverse disciplines including ecology, waste management, technology activism and contemporary art bring their expertise to bear on the consumption, use, obsolescence, disposal and repair and re-use of electronic equipment. Perspectives’ hybrid approach to these topics will be of interest to both general and specialized readers negotiating the cultural, environmental and social impacts of contemporary technology. Essays, projects and resource materials highlight approaches and practices that question consumption patterns and propose alternative approaches to using technology. Case studies and local contexts from Montreal Quebec are related to issues and initiatives across industrialized societies." -- Publisher's website

The first part of this report provides a comparative expert assessment, with respect to six target dimensions, of eleven key COVID-19 measures in Germany. It is based on responses by 60 experienced academic scholars with focus on labor market research, to a specific survey conducted at the beginning of 2021. The results indicate that short-time work clearly ranks first in the evaluation of the economic cost-benefit ratio. The instrument also ranks among the top three measures in each of the other target dimensions, while the temporary reduction in value-added tax is rated as having the worst cost-benefit ratio. The second part of this report puts the crisis-related extensions of short-time work in Germany in international context, in order to gain insights how the instrument could be developed to obtain an even more effective and efficient functionality in the future. Important parameters considered in this context are benefit levels and benefit duration, integration of training activities, financing mechanisms, and employer cost sharing

Documentary Protocols = Protocoles documentaires (1967-1975)

"Documentary Protocols (1967-1975) is the third part of an ambitious project that took place over a three-year period, and that also included two exhibitions (Documentary Protocols I and Documentary Protocols II) curated and presented at the Gallery in 2007 and 2008. This major historical publication reproduces over 250 documents from the 1960s and 70s drawn from 10 archival fonds and includes an introduction, a contextualizing essay and 6 case studies. In the mid-1960s, Canadian artists suffered from cultural isolation as museums were indifferent to their work and the international art market seemed beyond reach. Artists made up for this state of exclusion by creating alternative spaces in which they could present experimental work and offer services to members of their communities. Documentary Protocols (1967-1975) addresses a historical moment in which the investment of the concept of information by artists converged with the role of administrator they bestowed upon themselves. The historical trajectory of these self-managed organizations can now be observed in their archival fonds, where the results of partially realized utopias exist alongside material evidence of the artists’ labour. Following the decompartmentalization characterizing the period, the editorial structure of this publication provides equal visibility both to the sampling of documents and to the case studies based on the close reading of these items" -- Publisher's web site

Assessment and management of pain/nociception in patients with disorders of consciousness or locked-in syndrome: A narrative review

    Get PDF
The assessment and management of pain and nociception is very challenging in patients unable to communicate functionally such as patients with disorders of consciousness (DoC) or in locked-in syndrome (LIS). In a clinical setting, the detection of signs of pain and nociception by the medical staff is therefore essential for the wellbeing and management of these patients. However, there is still a lot unknown and a lack of clear guidelines regarding the assessment, management and treatment of pain and nociception in these populations. The purpose of this narrative review is to examine the current knowledge regarding this issue by covering different topics such as: the neurophysiology of pain and nociception (in healthy subjects and patients), the source and impact of nociception and pain in DoC and LIS and, finally, the assessment and treatment of pain and nociception in these populations. In this review we will also give possible research directions that could help to improve the management of this specific population of severely brain damaged patients
